Maths and Measures
We have been learning lots about how to measure using metres and centimetres, area and perimeter. We even became architects and interior decorators for a day when we designed our own dream house and chose all the different floors for each room. We had no idea how expensive tiles could be!
Lá an Bhia
Bhí Lá an Bhia ar siúl ar an Aoine. Rinneamar cáca, barróga, brioscaí, arán agus milseáin. Bhíomar lán go béal! Rinne Ms. Hayes deoch torthaí. Bhí sé an-bhlasta agus an-sláinte!
It's a new year in 3rd and 4th class and last week we learned about chance in Maths. We had great fun playing some chance games with our friends using dice, counters and coins! Some of us won a lot and others weren't so lucky. Who's for a game of Rock Paper Scissors??
We learned all about lines of symmetry and went of a maths hunt in the yard to see what symmetrical things we could find in our environment. There were loads!
'Holes' by Louis Sachar
We have just finished reading our class novel 'Holes'. It is a really funny, nail-biting and mysterious book that had us hooked to the last page. It is based on the character Stanley Yelnats and the time he spent at a detention centre called 'Camp Green Lake'. He had a really tough time as the boys there had to dig wide, deep holes every day in the scorching heat. Thanks to Ally, we even got to watch the movie version and really enjoyed watching all the characters come to life.
We are learning how to incorporate different shapes and levels into our dances in PE, as well as dancing in time with the music and in sync with our partners. Are you impressed with our moves??
Our African Safari
This week we created our own African Safari pictures. Firstly, we chose an animal print for our frames. We then used oil pastels to create our beautiful, glowing sunsets. We then cut out some silhouettes of African animals on black card and stuck them onto the sunsets. We are delighted with how they turned out.
Lines and Angles
This week we learned all about 2D shapes, lines and angles in Maths. We went on a hunt on the yard and marked out loads of parallel lines, perpendicular lines, right angles, acute angles, obtuse angles and straight angles with chalk. They are everywhere!!
We also drew lots of 2D shapes to figure out if they tessellated or not. We learned that semi-circles and circles don't tessellate, but we can make cool patterns with triangles, hexagons, squares, rectangles, parallelograms and rhombuses because they do tessellate.
Poems for Grandparents Day
This month we are learning how to be really descriptive writers. We wrote some poems all about our grandparents using loads of similes and metaphors. We hope they love them!
I love my Nana Lalor,
She is so special to me,
She helps me in all kinds of ways,
And it is clear to see.
I love my Granny G,
She lives so close to me,
She has a big family,
Who are all related to me.
My Grandad Jimmy lives in the Heath,
He always makes me nice things to eat,
He helps me with my homework,
And always makes sure it's neat.
I am so lucky to have great grandparents,
Who always care for me,
My Grandad PJ who is in heaven,
Is also part of my family.

We are learning all about Egypt and the lives of the people who live there in SESE this month. We learned that khoshaf is an Egyptian dessert made from dried fruits. Ms. Hayes got some dried apricots, raisins, cranberries and figs and mixed them together in a big bowl. Then she sprinkled A LOT of sugar on top (1 and a half cups to be precise). Finally, she poured about 2 cups of boiling water on top of the mixture and left it all to soak overnight in the fridge. We all got to taste some the next day with delicious custard. Some of us were big fans, the apricots especially went down a treat. Mark loved the figs!
However, it was not to everyone's taste as the texture of some of the fruits are a bit strange. Having said that, we're glad we tried something new and lived like an Egyptian for a little while!
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
