Tobar an Léinn is a small 6 teacher primary school located in the village of Raheen, Co. Laois, Ireland.
Bosco and Tommy from the local fire station came to visit 3rd and 4th class recently. We learned a lot about how to keep our homes safe from fire. We identified lots of possible hazards and are carrying out safety checks in our homes to make sure we are doing all we can to prevent fire.
Be sure to turn off all Christmas lights and blow out candles during the Christmas period when you are going to bed or leaving the house.
The 5th and 6th class debating team have been very busy over the last few weeks. Caoimhe, Joanne, Niamh, Colleen, Kaja and Lucy came up against The Heath N.S. in a friendly debate and were delighted to come out on top.
Things got serious against Our Lady's Meadow of Durrow on Tuesday 28th. Tobar an Leinn hosted the debate, Round 1 of the Primary Schools Laois Debating League. We proposed the motion 'Young people don't care about the problems of the Developing world'. After a very interesting and close debate, the adjudicators deemed the result to be a draw! Both teams will meet again for a 'replay' next week in the Laois Education Centre. Tobar an Léinn will propose the motion 'People should be fined for not recycling'. We wish the girls the best of luck and are extremely proud of their hard work and dedication.
Dragons Den came to Tobar an Léinn today. Jason Ryan Manager of Bank of Ireland and our own Ms Ní Leathlobhair were our two dragons. 5th and 6th Class presented their business plans and ideas to the Dragons . Each company were successful in getting investment from at least one Dragon but a lot of negotiating had to take place first. Thanks very much to Nadia of Bank of Ireland for all her help.
