Tobar an Léinn is a small 6 teacher primary school located in the village of Raheen, Co. Laois, Ireland.
Dragons Den came to Tobar an Léinn today. Jason Ryan Manager of Bank of Ireland and our own Ms Ní Leathlobhair were our two dragons. 5th and 6th Class presented their business plans and ideas to the Dragons . Each company were successful in getting investment from at least one Dragon but a lot of negotiating had to take place first. Thanks very much to Nadia of Bank of Ireland for all her help.
Congratulations to the Tobar an Léinn girls football team on their fantastic win in the Cumann na mBunscol finals in O'Moore Park yesterday. They faced tough competition against Paddock N.S. but showed great skill and determination and won the match 3-11 to 1-3. Well done on making it 3 in a row girls! Everyone at Tobar an Léinn is very proud!
All of 3rd and 4th class worked really hard on writing their own books for this year's Write-a-Book competition. Some children used their creative imaginations to write narrative stories, and others chose to write interesting information reports. There were all then sent off to be judged. The standard was extremely high! The merit award was awarded to Katie Grant, 3rd class, for her book 'It's a Cat-astrophe!'. Tiernan Donovan, 5th class, also received a merit award for his book entitled 'The Golden Rose' . He attended the awards ceremony which took place in the Heritage Hotel on 15th June.
Those children who received a 'Highly-Commended' award were Chloe Beere, Isabella Troy, Séana Dunne, Christopher Phelan, Leah Bergin and Evan Farrell. Congratulations to you all!!
The children really enjoyed participating in this competition and we consider them all winners! Well done!
Four members of the local soccer club recently came to visit our school and show us the cup they one for Raheen FC. They came first in the Combined Counties Football League, Division 2. This is a massive achievement having beaten big clubs such as Mullingar and Athlone. They now hope to go on and become champions of Division 1. We wish them all the best and will definitely be cheering them on on the sidelines when the new league starts.
