Tobar an Léinn is a small 6 teacher primary school located in the village of Raheen, Co. Laois, Ireland.
We are determined to make Tobar an Léinn a Bully Free Zone.
The pupils from 3rd to 6th Class were surveyed recently about Bullying in Tobar an Léinn. Unfortunately, as you can see from the results below, a lot of pupils felt that bullying was an issue in our school.
During Anti-Bullying Week we have improved our understanding of Bullying - what it is, what to do and what not to do.
We had assembly every morning and each class had the opportunity to put on a short drama on the topic of bullying. As a whole school we discussed the issued raised in each drama.
Each day in our classroom we also learned more about bullying through the Stay Safe Programme.
There was also an information night for parents to help the whole school community to deal with Bullying.
Anti-Bullying Week was a great success. Pupils, parents and teachers are all now better informed and we would this will have a very positive impact in our school environment.
Tobar an Léinn is closed today as there is no electricity and heating. We will re-open again in the morning.
The 5th and 6th class pupils of Tobar an Léinn N.S. have been working on their J.E.P.(Junior Entrepreneur Program) product called Comán Tobar. Comán Tobar makes personalised hurls. This is very exciting for the children as this is the school’s first time participating in J.E.P.
The class is divided into 5 teams. There is the marketing team, the finance team, the design team, the sales team and the storytelling team. We intend to keep you up to date with what the teams are doing and the progress of our exciting new company.
The Marketing Team
The Marketing Team has done some market research by sending a letter to parents and children and surveying them on their preferences. The information that they have obtained has helped with the design, target market, sales projections and the price. It was crucial to survey the children in what they thought of the product and how many potential customers they may have had. They are now working on creating a leaflet explaining Comán Tobar to the school community.
The Finance Team
The finance team have written to the Board of Management to seek money for the company. They are researching the prices of the hurls and trying to decide the most effective price for the hurley which is likely to generate the best profit. This team ensures that all the bills are paid, loans are repaid and calculates the overall profit and loss for the class JEP Project.
The Design& ProductionTeam
The design team are still busy working on the basic design of the hurls based off the survey. They have already come up with a super logo and have made a great job at incorporating a photo frame inside the hurley.
The Sales Team
The sales team have sorted out what they are going to do. They are now collecting numbers of people who are going to buy the product. The sales team will also arrange for the sale of Comán Tobar in school, in local shops and fairs.
The Storytelling Team
The storytelling team are writing to newspapers and to radio stations to get publicity. They are also recording the teams progress and posting it on the website. They are also responsible for capturing the story of the JEP project and presenting it at showcase day.
There will be another progress report on the teams soon.
